Ghana Needs God's Direction- Prophet Kobi

By Solomon Mensah

Prophet Kobi
The Leader and Founder of the Glorious Wave Church International, Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, has charged (Ghanaian) politicians to ''ask'' God for solutions to problems baffling us as a nation.

Speaking on Nsem Pii, Happy Fm, he said that majority of Ghana's problems were not found in the books of biology nor archaeology but rather in the word of God.

He noted that politicians' over reliance on 'democracy and self-knowledge' without the word of God would thwart the nation's direction to success.

Prophet Kobi said that Former President Kufour and President Mahama's HIPC and economic bailout, respectively, should tell any discerning mind that ''It's time to ask God for the right direction to achieving Ghana's desired success.''

''There is essence in relying on God,'' he said, ''I can site my church in this instance. The Lord God has directed the Church to do only two major things in the name of the Church in 2015, which are a university and a television station.''

He quoted Proverbs 3;5-6; ''Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths'' to throw a challenge to President Mahama that neither the World Bank nor the IMF would be able to help solve the 'crisis' of his administration.

''President Mahama must seek the face of God for He (God) is the Head of every would-be a successful/or successful nation. He (Mahama) needs the spirit of discernment to be able to decipher good from bad. I must put on record that both President Mahama and Nana Addo lack God's-directing-spirit needed to put a nation on the right track.''

Prophet Kobi reminded politicians that ''When the people vote you, you are the leader but you must know that you are an assistant to God.'' He prayed for the betterment of the nation (Ghana) and reiterated his stance that Ghana needs God's direction and not man's physical strength.

The slogan-birthing Ghanaian gospel musician, Mr Nicholas Omane Acheampong popularly known as Zaphenath Panea, is set to launch his latest album; ''Akua 57'' on the 5th of October, 2014, at the Glorious Wave Church International, Sakumono, Accra.

Dealing With The Torments Of The Evil One

By Solomon Mensah

Bishop J.Y. Adu
The Leader and Founder of the New Jerusalem Chapel, Bishop J.Y. Adu, has said that bad spirits are some of the causative agents for the spread of diseases.

He said this on Nsem Pii, Happy FM. Speaking with Nyansa Boakwa, the host of the show, Bishop Adu noted that ''Bad spirits when are the cause of one's illness bedevil the fellow with all its might.''

Bishop Adu quoted Matthew 17:14, recounting a man's plea to Jesus to heal his son; ''And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him saying, Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.''

He shared his experiences of healing the sick narrating a bizarre story of a family in Ayerede-Nkoranza (Brong Ahafo Region). ''There was a woman in the family, a witch, who tormented a young boy and his uncle. This woman tried giving the boy a bad spirit and the uncle, then a referee in Tema who had had a FIFA appointment, a goiter.''

Bishop Adu said that through prayers, the Lord God healed the boy and his uncle through him. He added that one must solely rely on God to deal with the torments of the evil one.

Unraveling the 'hidden'

By Solomon Mensah

Dr. Akanayo
The Founder of the Akanayo Herbal Clinic, Doctor Alhaji Akanayo, has said that many of the so called prophetic and spiritual revelations of the 'unknown' are discovered by physical 'signs' and 'knowledge' gifted to those who profess them.

He said that the generalization of all those gifted to 'seeing' the unknown as spiritualists was wrong. 'We often hear people branding anyone that delves into the unknown as spiritualists but it is not exactly so.'

''On the traditional calender, in the ninth month, it is a known fact that 70% of any number of women sampled will be pregnant. In the eight month, dogs mate, in the eleventh month, animals in the bush also get pregnant,' he said, 'Sitting by a fire with the blue smoke blowing towards you or any other person by the fire suggest such person has done something untoward. He who sits to the direction of the east and a bee comes to hover around his/her ear three times, suggest that he would receive a visitor. If the bee, after hovering around the ear, comes back to the person's ear suggest that the visitor the person would receive would sleepover.''

''These signs and knowledge have nothing to do with spirituality. Each one of us, at least, has a little of this gift. One could look into the face of a lady/woman and tell whether he or she is pregnant or not. One could tell whether someone is hungry/felling sleepy or not by the way a person yawns.''

Dr. Akanayo noted that there were a variety of signs and knowledge that one could use to tell what is hidden. ''We have 'time' as one of the signs among others,'' he said.

He advised the general public to be circumspect of what they hear from 'spiritualists.'

Politics is wrong; we need leadership- Prophet Kobi

Prophet Kobi
The Founder and Leader of the Glorious Wave Church International (GWCI), Prophet Emmanuel Badu Kobi, has said that there was something wrong with Ghana’s politics and that it was not ‘politics’ that the nation needed but ‘leadership.’

He said on Nyansa Boakwa’s show, Nsem Pii on Happy FM, that ‘Democracy is to handle material things on a people’s (nation) behalf’ while ‘Politics is to handle material things on a people’s behalf for the attainment of profit.’ He emphasised that democracy and politics affect majority of people in a nation but both cannot be equated to ‘leadership.’

Prophet Kobi said that Ghana’s democracy and politics lack leadership qualities which are most essential ingredient in building a successful nation. ‘And leadership comes from God. This brings God into the equation; kingdom life. If Ghana will succeed, it needs a God-partnered person (leader).’

He said that Kingdom life is whereby God has a say in the ruling affairs of a nation and controls the leader’s actions and inactions.’ Israel flourished (in days of old) because of God’s involvement in the nation’s affairs. In democracy, judgements are taking solely by men and man cannot think perfectly like God. The secret ingredient to a successful ruling is the involvement of God.’

He quizzed Nsem Pii’s listeners on why people call on God when the nation starts to realise that times are hard but do not look up to God first before elections.

Prophet Kobi quoted Proverbs 13:24 saying ‘righteousness’ is driven by law and a law abiding leader that could uplift a nation comes from observing God’s orders.

He did not rubbish the existence of democracy nor politics but challenged Ghanaian politicians to attach God-given leadership to their ruling. ‘Not even Mahama nor Akuffo Addo know the qualities of a God-partnered leader. But there is hope at the end of the tunnel,’ he added.

Toilets of shame! (Part II)

By Solomon Mensah

Caution: The content of this article could be nauseating to the reader!

Fighting the stench

In Sunyani, I met a toilet attendant who doubles as the cleaner in one of the toilets I visited. For the sake of anonymity, I will call him Papa Asare. Bare handedly, he held a short broom in the right hand tightly like a relay baton. I gawked at him as he picked the half-worn-out baskets that had toilet papers in them one after the other and poured the contents into a bigger basket.

The 52 year old man stamps his right leg on the piled toilet papers to suppress it from falling from the basket. While I struggled to take a breath, he did the sweeping seemingly happily without a nose mask. “I would have wished wearing a nose mask and gloves to work but I have never been given any,” he told me.

Papa Asare hints that cleaners use DDT and other chemicals to wash the toilet seats. “These chemicals kill the houseflies and other animals that are in the toilets,” he noted. However, “It is not all the time that the caretakers of the toilet supply us the DDT. Therefore, what we often use is just ordinary water.”

The flies, as I spoke with him, hovered all over. A user of any of the public toilets performs another function in addition to easing him/herself. “For the user of the public toilet, he or she has to fan away the houseflies incessantly,” he admitted.

Another toilet attendant, a woman, whom I will name as Ama Kwakyewaa, told me that “The Sunyani Municipal Assemblies’ Health Inspectorate Team occasionally comes to inspect the toilet. But the sad thing is that when they come, they stand meters away and write their report. It was on only one occasion that I saw them enter this toilet to inspect,” she said.

Mr. Simon Opoku, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer-Sunyani, however, debunks the assertion that his men do not enter the toilets during their inspections. “I enter the male section of the toilets but not that of the females’ since I am a male,” he said. On the provision of gloves, nose and mouth masks for the toilet cleaners, he admits that some of the private operators who partly manage these facilities with the assembly fail to resource their cleaners with such gears.

He said that the standard of the public toilets in the Sunyani Municipality is average and that they are not to perfection. Answering my question as to whether he will use these toilets himself, he gave a ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ reply. “Yes, if the standard of the toilet is good and vice versa,” he observed. Attempt to reach the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to as well react to the standard of public toilets went futile.

Contracting diseases

Dr. Ohene Adu is a private medical doctor in Sunyani. He tells me there are a number of diseases that one is likely to contract from the public toilet. “Candidiasis (in women), urinary tract infection (in both men and women) and diarrhea are some of the diseases one could contract on an untidy toilet,” he said.

Considering the filthy nature of our public toilets, a user is prone to contracting any of such diseases.

Public toilet in the news

On Adom FM’s News (17th August, 2013 and 19th August, 2013 respectively), it was reported that at Aseseso (Akuapem South) in the Eastern Region, both men and women use the same column of a public toilet due to malfunction of the female section and at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region, a public toilet overflowed. Just close to the Amasaman’s overflowing toilet, the report said, sat a school and food vendors.

The Foot Soldiers’ factor

The public toilets, unlike the days of old, are now jointly managed by the various assemblies together with private individuals. According to Mr. Simon Opoku, the assembly used to advertise to the general public for interested persons to sign a contract to run the facility with the assembly.

He, however, said that for the past two to three regimes (governments), the laid down procedure in getting private individuals for the joint management of the toilets has changed. “Now, foot soldiers will seize the toilet and give it to their own men to partner the assembly in the toilet’s management,” he noted.

Looking beyond the toilet seizures, no decent word can be used to describe any of the toilets the foot soldiers fight over. “With the present system of foot soldiers taking captive of the toilets, the assembly can only query them of the poor state of the toilets but rather cannot take the ‘ownership’ from them,” says Mr. Opoku.

Where does the money go?

Averagely, the public toilet user pays 20 pesewas to access the toilet. The following table analyzes the income such toilets owners receive. The table uses two hundred (200) users of a toilet to calculate its proceeds in a day, month and year. Assuming every user visits the toilet once in a day.

Proposed fiscal analysis of sanitary income of a toilet from its 200 people (users).

The million dollar question now to ask is where do these monies go???

Mr. Simon Opoku says the owners pay 40 to 60 Ghana Cedis to the assembly in a month. He is hopeful that with the Sunyani Municipal Assembly’s newly drafted policy to police the private ownership of public toilets and the effort of his office, cleanliness would be restored to such toilets. Until then, users of the public toilet like Derrick and Juliet will have to battle the filth and stench.
